Add sugar mixture, milk, and vanilla extract to butter.
Add flour and salt to "wet" mixture. Start by adding 1 1/2 cups of flour and the salt. Then add the rest of the flour one cup at a time. Mix well.
Roll out the dough to 1/8" (0.5 cm) thickness. You will probably have too much dough to roll out all at once.
Depending on how sticky your dough is, you may want to put flour on the counter undernearth and/or on the dough. This will prevent the dough from sticking from the counter and rolling pin respectively. However, this dough usually does not stick even without the flourn.
Cut out cookies with cookie cutters.
Place the cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Gather up the scraps from around the cookies and put them to the side. They can be rolled out to make more cookies.
Repeat steps 5 - 8 until there is no more dough.
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 6 - 10 minutes.
Leave the cookies on the cookie sheet for 1 minute before moving them to a cookie rack.
